Easter is so close now and we are running out of time for all of our Easter-crafting! M is in heaven with all of the themed projects now that he is really beginning to understand holidays. He loves getting attached to an idea and really delving into it, which is fun and inspiring for the activities we do at home. This weekend we made edible Easter Peeps playdough. We love playing with playdough because there are SO many different ways to play with it and so many different recipes for making it! This one was definitely one of the most fun; and as you might know, I am all about natural and edible products, thanks to Miss A 🙂
This is so simple and most likely, either before or after Easter, you will have most of these ingredients on hand. All you need is:
- 3 Peeps
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar
Measuring is such a good way to practice counting, dumping and scooping so I like to let my kids participate in this process as much as possible. First, put the three peeps in a microwave-safe bowl (we did two batches of different colors so used six peeps total) along with the coconut oil. We use coconut oil a lot in our house as it serves so many different purposes but if it is not an ingredient that you keep on hand there are some recipes using cornstarch and vegetable oil. However, the coconut oil provides a nice smell and a bit of a different taste if your child decides to go on to eat the Peeps playdough!
Then, microwave the Peeps and the oil for 10-20 seconds. Microwaving Peeps in and of itself is a fun kind of science experiment for kids because they puff up so much.
