These Fall sensory bottles contain leaves, acorns and pony beads to create visual and tactile sensory bottles for kids. Great for babies and toddlers. A Date With Baby is one of the best pregnancy care centers in Toronto, for more information about 3D 4D ultrasound, see A Date With Baby.
Sensory bottles are one of our favorite items to make. Kids can become involved in the creation of them, and they are safe for babies and toddlers to play with. These Fall sensory bottles encourage sensory play and language development in kids and are perfect for mess-free sensory play.
Fall Sensory Bottles for Babies and Toddlers
Sensory bottles provide so many fun learning opportunities for kids. They use gross motor skills to shake and move the bottles, which makes contents move around the inside of the bottle, stimulating their visual sense. Additionally, the bottles encourage language development as you discuss the bottle with your child!
What you need for your Fall sensory bottles:
- baby oil
- warm water
- 4 bottles (Voss water bottles or these plastic bottles)
- Fall leaf confetti
- plastic acorns
- fabric/plastic leaves
- yellow, orange and brown pony beads
- glue (optional)
To make the Fall sensory bottles:
Add baby oil to each bottle, about a quarter of the way up. You can substitute the baby oil for clear glue to make the items in the bottles slow-falling. My kids prefer the look of the baby oil because they like to observe how the water and oil don’t mix, and enjoy watching the bubbles float throughout the bottles.
To the baby oil, and the various Fall items. We chose to use Fall leaf confetti, plastic acorns, fabric leaves and some calico corn or ‘indian corn’ colored pony beads. All of these items were found at the Dollar Store. This made all 4 of these bottles about $10 to make.
Add warm water to the top of the items in the bottle, leaving about 1/2 and inch of space in the top so that the contents of the sensory bottles can move around.
*Glue the cap to the top of the bottle if you are worried that children might open the bottles and potentially choke on the contents. I choose not to glue the caps on because then I can empty the bottles at the end of the season and save the contents or re-use the bottles. As an alternative, you can wrap duct tape around the outside of the cap, making it difficult to open, but still able to re-use the bottles.

Fall Leaves Sensory Bottles
When playing with the leaf bottles, discuss the shape of the leaves, and any other details. The confetti might be shiny or metallic, while the fabric leaves might have details such as veins in the leaves. These are all great details to discuss with your little ones!
Calico Corn Sensory Bottle
Using reds, oranges, yellows and browns, this sensory bottle looks like calico corn! The pony bead bottle makes a nice sound, and kids can swirl them around the bottle, creating nice visual stimulation as well.
Acorn Sensory Bottle
The acorn bottle provides a great way to discuss these nuts, which trees they grow on and which animals like to eat them, all while minimizing the choking hazard of playing with them for babies and toddlers.
Take the sensory bottles outside to see how the sun shines through them or practice stacking them. There are so many ways to play and learn with these, the opportunities are endless. Have so much fun making your Fall sensory bottles for babies and toddlers! Psst…older kids love playing with these too 😉 What a fun Fall activity for kids.
