There are SO many benefits to getting outside every day for kids and adults alike. Not only is the Vitamin D good for the body, but research on the benefits of outdoor play for child development is overwhelming. Additionally, playing games as a family is a wonderful way to bond and spend some quality, unplugged time together. Check out these awesome lawn games for the family, and some tips for getting your lawn summer-ready!

Outdoor play is essential for health and development. Check out these awesome lawn games for the family, and some tips for getting your lawn summer-ready!

Awesome Lawn Games for the Family

There are all kinds of games you can purchase to have fun on the lawn! Like ball games? Try bocce ball, volleyball or croquet! Corn hole, ring toss (here is a fun ring toss game you can make!) and horseshoes are a bit more leisurely and great for a low key BBQ. Opt for a plastic horseshoe set to make it more family-friendly.

DIY Family Lawn Games!

Are you a DIY’er or like to create things as a family? Here are some great ideas for games that you can make yourself:

Oversized lawn games: Make your own large set of lawn checkers, a balance beam, lawn dice or even a chess set if you are feeling really ambitious! Paint a twister board on your lawn for a really fun DIY lawn game.

Host a backyard Olympics: Whether you are looking for preschool Olympic ideas or want some inspiration for everyday backyard fun put together Olympic-style, this is a really fun way to engage in a bit of friendly competition.

Set up some family fun games: Work on some educational skills through play with a hilarious number line game, have a water fight with homemade sponge water bombs, or set up a bowling game that glows for nighttime fun!

However you choose to play as a family will be time that you will all cherish, and will create lasting memories for you and your kids.

Tips for Getting Your Lawn Summer Ready!

Outdoor play is essential for health and development. Check out these awesome lawn games for the family, and some tips for getting your lawn summer-ready!

If you live anywhere like I do, your lawn has been sitting under snow and frost for the Winter and needs a bit of sprucing up so that you can really enjoy those lawn games! We Seed America has some great tips for helping achieve this:

Rake your lawn to remove dead grass, old leaves and any other debris that accumulated over the winter. Raking enables you to see any bare or worn areas that need attention, and it also increases soil contact when seeding and allows new young grass to grow more easily.

Then, aerate, seed and weed! These are all activities that you can get you whole family involved in helping with. Kids take pride in cultivating something and watching it grow, which makes gardening and lawn care great family activities.

Check out these tips too for maintaining your lawn to keep it green!

Enjoy Your Lawn!

I hope you find some lawn games here that your family will love! Don’t forget the tips to get your lawn summer ready, and enjoy the outdoor time together.

Happy Playing!

Now if only I had a bigger yard to play these games and kids who were willing to play! I wish I knew about these when they were younger.

We love playing outside, especially lawn games. One year we had a massive birthday party outside with a Minecraft theme. We ended up doing Minecraft Olympics, with ‘Endermen’ gathering blocks and Creeper shooting. SO much fun!

Thank you for the reminder about the fab ways to celebrate being outside – and on the lawn! I have amazing memories of playing a lot of games outside as a child on the grass and hope kids today can experience that natural fun too! Oversized lawn games sounds like something I want to try out this summer!

Such great ideas to get the family outside during the warm weather. Summer is almost here but with the warm weather now getting outdoors is great so we aren’t cooped up in the house.

Love this! We played outside over the weekend for Easter. My kids are 16, 22, 23,29 and 30! We had an egg hunt and then played egg toss. We have trophies made since our kids are older just to keep it fun and competitive.

We love being outside this time of the year. Living in Florida it’s hard to enjoy the outdoors, unless your in the water, because the heat is unbearable, but right now is perfect. Our family loves to play backyard games!

We used to have a volleyball net. It tore up so we had to throw it away. We used to play volleyball and badminton on it a lot. I have never tried croquet, but my husband says that I would like it. I think we need to try it next.
