My 4 year old loves to experiment with different milks. He is currently on a goat milk kick right now 🙂 I had the opportunity to try out the Everyday Select Nut Milk Bag (found on Amazon) to make our own almond milk! You can actually use the bag to make a number of things including yogurt but so far we have only tried the almond milk. We decided to make ours chocolate, but you can skip the chocolate and add vanilla if you like.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup almonds (plain)
2 cups water
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp sugar
DIRECTIONS:
To prepare the almonds, cover with water in a bowl and soak them overnight. This will give your milk a creamier texture.
Drain and rinse the almonds and put them in a blender.
Add 2 cups of fresh water, cocoa powder and sugar and blend until liquefied.
For our setup, I placed the bag inside of a colander and set that in a bowl. You don’t need the colander with the bag but it was just an easier more manageable setup for the kids.
Pour the mixture into the bag
and begin squeezing the bag to get all of the milk out. This part is really fun for the kids!
You will be left with an almond meal…my plan is to try to dry it out and use it as almond flour…what should we make??
And there you have it, chocolate almond milk! I’ve been adding this to my coffee in the mornings 🙂
Delicious! And fun!
