Welcome!
I am so happy you are joining me here! If you are new to the site, I am going to give you a brief background about my journey to this blog and a bit about what you can expect.
Growing up I had one dream in life, to be a stay at home mom. I babied anyone younger than me (particularly my poor younger brother who I had calling me ‘mom’ and our mom ‘grandma’) and always had an affinity for babies. (My Grandma did pay me to change my brother’s dirty diapers when she watched us so maybe there was some conditioning involved there) But, the point is, throughout my life I have always wanted to be educated and then become a stay at home.
As I got older, can you guess what the #1 criticism I received was?
“Why would you spend all that money on college if you are only going to be a housewife?”
I can’t tell you how many times I defended myself against this question simply stating that I wanted to teach my kids as much as I could, and felt that being educated would only help make me a better mom. Fast forward through college and a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from NYU, and multiple jobs working in preschools, elementary school and as a behavior therapist for kids with Autism, to the day that I finally got my dream job.
In 2011, I became a mom to a baby boy. (I have since had two more, a girl and another boy). My days of staying home with my kids were here and I was delighted. I used to scour Pinterest looking for fun ways to entertain my baby and teach him through fun games around the house. As he got older, he dragged a step stool around with him, begging to help me with every task imaginable (hence the name Views From a Step Stool).
I have loved every minute of watching my kids grow and explore the world. I truly believe there is great value in letting kids create and imagine while involving all of their senses. Learning through play allows for such rich educational experiences and I love to share that with you here on my site.
