Pretend play is very important in this house! My children are also not the type to go off and play by themselves…with anything…so they are constantly at my feet no matter what I am doing! I love it and it means that they know how to cook and do the laundry at a young age…but it also means I NEVER get to do my hair or makeup without someone pulling on my clothes wanting to be involved. This usually means I forgo the process altogether. Mack loves getting ready for church because it means he gets to help me with my makeup. So I have decided to make the kids their own set of play makeup that feels real to them. Whenever I buy them the toy version of something they like to use, they don’t play with the toy because they want the real deal. This pretend makeup was incredibly easy to make, feels real, and comes without the mess 🙂 Plus, it allowed me to clean out some of my old makeup! It’s made me wonder what it would be like to manufacture lipstick, giving kids a truly authentic, safe experience with pretend makeup.

I started with some makeup that I don’t use anymore and cleaned out the containers until they were all empty.

I then started pouring nail polish into the empty containers. I went with bright colors because I thought it might be enticing that way.

If you don’t want to part with any of your old makeup or nail polish, you can find affordable options at the Dollar Store or explore Budget Hair & Beauty for a wide selection of budget-friendly products to create an inexpensive play set.

Once I had them all poured, I just let them air dry overnight. Make sure to put them next to an open window because it will stink up the room!

I also added a few makeup brushes because this is really their favorite part of the process.

They were both thrilled with their play makeup! And I enjoyed getting a makeover that didn’t leave glitter eyeshadow from my eyelashes to my brow bones 🙂
