These breakfast smoothies for kids are simple and quick to make. They provide protein and vitamins making a great option in the mornings.

Another school year is upon us, which means that mornings are chaos. Trying to pry my kids out of bed and get them ready for school on time is no small task, and feeding them a healthy breakfast that always ends up being on the go, it another feat. We have been using our BlendJet portable blender to make healthy breakfast smoothies for kids that are perfect for school mornings.

These breakfast smoothies for kids are simple and quick to make. They provide protein and vitamins making a great option in the mornings.

Healthy Smoothies for Kids

Smoothies are a great way to sneak in macronutrients and vitamins into your kids’ breakfast. Adding ingredients like oatmeal can also help keep them full for longer, making it easier to last until lunchtime (my youngest favorite school ‘subject’).

I like to start with base recipes for my kids smoothies, that way the kids can easily recreate them and add ingredients as we have them available. Keeping ingredients frozen on hand is another helpful tip. Bananas and spinach can both be frozen into individual bags that can be popped in the blender in the morning.

Using a BlendJet Portable Blender for Smoothies

We have been using and loving out BlendJet blender. The kids like that that don’t have to pull a large blender out of the cabinet and plug it in. Removing these couple steps from the morning routine make grabbing a smoothie a more doable task before school, and helps foster independence for my kids.

The BlendJet is a powerful little blender that can be charged, and lasts quite a few uses before needing to charge again. It is a great size for holding our morning smoothies, and my kids can drink right out of the BlendJet which eliminates any other dishes.

Tips for using the BlendJet:

  • pour liquid into the blender before the remaining ingrediends
  • use fine ice like nugget ice to get a good blend in a frozen drink (our nugget ice maker is among our favorite purchases)
  • wash the BlendJet by adding soap and water to the blender and running it until clean, then give it a rinse

Smoothie Base Recipes for Kids

Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup milk (or liquid alternative)
  • 1/4 cup greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup oatmeal
  • berries (fresh or frozen)
  • honey

My kids like to make this with frozen mixed berries and a bit of banana. It’s a filling smoothie that tastes sweet. You can also opt for other fruit such as peach or mango, or try it with peanut butter and a dash of chocolate syrup for a treat.

Green Smoothie

  • 3/4 cup milk or orange juice
  • frozen pineapple
  • fresh spinach leaves
  • 1/2 banana
  • honey

This is such a great way to add some greens to your morning! Plus, the spinach here is sneaky and my kids barely taste it. It’s a refreshing morning smoothie to wake you up. Opt for the orange juice instead of milk if your kids like a sweeter smoothie. Additionally, freeze the banana into small slices for a thicker, creamier smoothie.

Protein Berry Smoothie

  • 3/4 cup Fairlife milk, or Lactaid Protein milk
  • frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 banana
  • honey

This is a simple recipe, but the addition of Fairlife really ups the protein value of this smoothie, which is a great breakfast option for my older kids who play sports at school. If you need a protein milk alternative, Lactaid makes an option as well. I like using these milks for my kids’ protein smoothies as it’s easier on their stomachs than adding alternatives like whey protein.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie

  • 3/4 cups milk or milk alternative
  • 1/2 banana
  • frozen strawberries
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter or PB powder
  • honey
  • 1 tsp chia seeds

These breakfast smoothies for kids are simple and quick to make. They provide protein and vitamins making a great option in the mornings.

Talk about a yummy and sweet treat for breakfast! Plus, the peanut butter will add some protein and nutritional value to keep kids full. My kids like the crunch of the chia seeds in this, similar to the feeling of a seeded bread on their PB&J.

Enjoy your kids breakfast smoothies

All of these recipes are quite simple, and easy to make in the BlendJet! We use the lines on the blender cup to measure the milk out, and then just add from there not really measuring the rest of the ingredients, but be careful not to overfill the BlendJet or it will stop blending.

I hope these make your mornings with kids quick, easy, and healthy!
