Edible Garden Sensory Bin

As you might know by now we love sensory play in my house! I love finding things that can interest both a 3 year old as well as a baby and that usually requires something edible. While at the store today Mack found some little plastic insects that he wanted to get and asked to make a project with them. That was all the inspiration it took for our fun ‘garden’ play today. We are really enjoying celebrating all things Spring right now!

We first made a base of chocolate pudding as our mud.

I haven’t posted about any of the baking activities that we do but Mack enjoys cooking with me and loves anything that includes measuring, dumping or stirring! We used two boxes to make a nice batch of mud. If you want to make this a less messy and quicker project you could use pudding cups instead.

While the pudding was setting in the refrigerator we prepared the rest of our supplies. We made some spaghetti worms by making our colored pasta. For a bit of a different texture you can try making jello worms but Mack is not a Jello fan so we went with the pasta.

We used mini marshmallows and mini cookies as rocks and pebbles.

We also grabbed some pretzels to use as sticks. Once we had everything assembled we put the pudding in a plastic bin and took everything outside. I love sensory play outside!

I set it on a plastic tablecloth that I didn’t want to keep so when we were done I just took out the plastic creatures and the dishes and wrapped the rest up in the tablecloth and threw it away. It hardly made a mess at all (except for the kids who went right in the tub!).
