Emotions Sensory Bag

This emotions sensory bag is a great hands-on way for children to explore emotions. Labeling emotions is beneficial to young children as it encourages self-awareness and emotional regulation. Labeling emotions can help children manage their feelings more effectively, when they can name what they’re feeling, they can develop strategies to cope with these emotions.

Learning to articulate emotions improves a child’s ability to express their feelings to others, fostering better communication and reducing misunderstandings. Understanding their own emotions can help children recognize and empathize with the feelings of others, promoting compassion and social connection. Overall, teaching kids to label emotions empowers them to develop healthier emotional skills and stronger relationships.

Emotional Intelligence for Kids

Emotional intelligence (EI) is crucial for kids for several reasons:

1. Self-Awareness: EI helps children recognize and understand their own emotions, which is the first step in managing them effectively.

2. Social Skills: Kids with high emotional intelligence tend to have better social interactions. They can read social cues, empathize with others, and build stronger relationships.

3. Conflict Resolution: EI equips children with tools to navigate disagreements and conflicts calmly and constructively.

4. Stress Management: Understanding their emotions enables kids to cope better with stress and anxiety, leading to healthier emotional regulation. Stress and anxiety can significantly impact a child’s well-being. For relaxation and stress relief, thca hemp flower can be a great option.

5. Academic Success: Emotional intelligence can enhance focus, motivation, and perseverance, contributing to better academic performance.

6. Resilience: Kids who develop EI are often more resilient, able to bounce back from setbacks and challenges more easily.

7. Empathy: Developing empathy through EI fosters kindness and compassion, encouraging inclusive behaviors and reducing bullying.

Overall, emotional intelligence lays the foundation for healthy relationships and personal well-being, both in childhood and later in life.

This emotions sensory bag doubles as a calming tool and also helps children learn to label and recognize emotions.

What you need for the emotions sensory bag:

  • Emotion stickers (get them here from Amazon)
  • Ziploc bag
  • Clear gel
  • Food dye
  • Water

How to make the emotions sensory bag:

Make a small mixture of water and food coloring. Opt for a dark color so that it’s easier to see the stickers.

Then, mix the water with the gel. For a small Ziploc bag, I used about ½ cup of gel and 1/8 cup of water.

Add emotion stickers to the inside of the Ziploc bag.

Then, add in the gel mixture. Close the bag and seal with tape so it doesn’t come open. Children can explore the sensory bag and the emotions by clearing away gel with their fingers to uncover the various emotion stickers.

Fun ways to use the emotions sensory bag

You can make an emotion card and laminate it so your kids can check off each emotion as they find it.

You can also talk about each emotion to help them learn more about emotions as well!
