This Ride the Rainbow board game is great for for preschoolers and older children alike. Practice counting, color identification and turn taking skills with this fun free printable board game.

This Ride the Rainbow board game is such a fun one to keep kids busy, and it’s free to print! Playing board games has many benefits for kids including counting, number and color identification and more. This is a perfect game for St. Patrick’s Day, a Spring game, or any time of the year.

Ride the Rainbow Board Game Printable

St. Patrick’s Day and the coming of Spring are both represented by rainbows. Children love their brights colors, and memorizing the pattern of the rainbow seems like a childhood rite of passage.

We have many rainbow St. Patrick’s Day activities to do on this site, and I love when we can tuck these in our back pocket and use them any other time of the year as well.

This Ride the Rainbow is a fun dice game that encourages counting, math, and the pattern of the rainbow recognition.

How to play Ride the Rainbow

This board game is quite simple. Begin on the Start space and choose a player to go first. Players roll the dice and move the number of spaces along the red arc.

Continue play, when a player gets to the end of the red arc, follow the arrow to go along the orange arc.

Once a player has completed all the colors of the rainbow, and a roll lands them in the finish space under the rainbow, they win!

That’s the most basic of game play for this game. If your rainbow lovers like this, check out our unicorn rainbow board game too!

To assemble the game board:

This game will print in two pages, half of the rainbow on each page.

To assemble, line up the rainbow (you might need to trim a little of the white edge off unless you fill to page when printing) and tape the game board together.

The rainbow should line up well and you can begin your game play.

How to use this printable board game to practice math skills:

My 4 year old is interested in counting and basic math, such as 1+1, 1+2 etc. My 6 year old is working on addition and subtraction up to double digits, and my 8 year old is practicing multiplication.

So, we have taken two dice and played this game by practicing  all of the above! With one die (or two) you can roll one then add the number of the second roll and move that number of spaces.

We took that same die and rolled 3 times to do an addition – subtraction – addition formula and then move the total number of spaces.

With my oldest, we rolled two dice and multiplied the numbers to move that amount of spaces. So much addition practice at different levels with the same printable board game!

That is how to make learning FUN 🙂
