These books series for early elementary aged children are a mix of mysteries, animal stories and even potty humor that early readers will love to read.
One of the questions I get asked often, and a question I’ve often asked my friends, is “what are you kids reading?”. We all know how critical reading daily is to early learning and education, and there are SO many options for books, you can’t possibly read them all to see what your kids will like. These are some of my own kids’ favorite book series for early elementary ages.

Fun Book Series for Early Elementary Ages
There are a handful of book lists and recommendations for types of books on this site. Many are for toddlers and preschoolers, and go along with some of the book based extension activities we have done.
This particular list is our favorite book series (how do you make that word plural? serieses? no right? anyway…) for early elementary ages. As I compile this list my children are 5, 7 and 9 years old, two boys and a girl.
My 5 year old can’t yet read, but absolutely loves listening to chapter books with detailed stories being read to him. I’ve said since he was about 2 years old that he could be a movie producer one day – he just loves a good story. The Captain Underpants books on this list are his favorites 😉
Don’t forget to print some of our printable bookmarks for free to use with these books!

These book recommendations include mysteries, animal stories and even potty humor. They have brought endless laughs and imaginative stories to the minds of my children and I hope you can find some books on this list that your children can enjoy too!
My personal favorites on this list are the Kid Legends books which are stories of real-life legends (presidents, artists, activities, authors, scientist, athletes) written in such a fun fictional manner for kids.
I also have a soft spot in my heart for Elephant and Piggie, along with any book written by Mo Willems. These are definitely best for preschool and Kindergarteners, but I’d be lying if I said my second and fourth graders don’t love to pick these up and read through them and laugh.
What other book series would you add to this list?
