We use busy bags all the time. Most of the ones we have created are best for toddlers and preschoolers, but my 6 year old loves them too! This felt emoji busy bag is great for toddlers and big kids alike, especially as the Emoji Movie premiers. My oldest loved creating his own emojis, and I have to say, I’d use some of them in a text!
Felt Emoji Busy Bag
This busy bag is a great kids activity as it develops fine motor skills and imagination. For toddlers, it helps identify parts of the body and where the eyes and mouth go in relation to one another, almost like a Mr. Potato Head. I drew my own rough emojis to use as a template to cut out my felt, the image of this is shown below if you want to copy these designs.
What you need:
Felt (yellow, black, white, red, blue, and pink)
Wooden or cork coasters
Hot glue
What to do:
Trace your wood or cork circles on yellow felt and cut out.
Attach the felt circles to the wood with hot glue. These will be the bases of the emojis, make as many as you want to have in your busy bag. We made 4 of them for this bag, though the amount of emojis the kids can mix and match are seemingly endless!
Sketch some emojis on a piece of paper to act as a template. Cut the pieces out of felt.
One of the beauties of felt busy bags (like this cookie decorating one) is that felt is cheap! I prefer to buy higher quality felt for these busy bags because it has a nicer feel and is a bit firmer, but regular felt found at the craft store is great as well.
Get the felt that I used here.
Then get to work decorating the emoji faces! My kids enjoyed a mix of following the template exactly and making their own new emojis!
As you can see, we got quite creative!
We like to store our busy bags in zippered pencil pouches as they keep everything nice and organized and are easy to throw in a purse or a diaper bag!
Pin these!
First: love your idea. But How do you keep the eye’s and stuff from fauling off?
The felt pieces stick to each other pretty well 🙂 if you were to throw them around they would fall apart, but for doing on a table top it works well
