This past week I attended my first ever blog conference! I tried not to show it but I was a nervous wreck! I had decided to attend for the same reason I chose to start my blog in the first place. While it has been my life’s dream (literally) to be a stay at home mom, and I do love it, life doesn’t have to end at mommyhood. It’s possible to reach out to other adults, inspire fellow moms, and continue to ‘have a life’. So off I went. Romper and all.
After starting the journey by dragging my kids out of bed and to their grandparents house, insane traffic at the train station, and then sprinting to catch the train while lugging a diaper bag, my luggage…oh and a 15lb 2 month old (yes he came too) we were off. I live about an hour away from NYC so took good old New Jersey Transit; that hour on the train gave me plenty of time to think and get cold feet. But I also got to spend some time alone with my baby…however he ‘chose’ this as prime time to have a complete diaper blowout. Have you ever tried to change an explosive diaper in the bathroom of a moving train…without a changing table??? I hope you never have to. A cute romper and an Aden and Anais swaddle blanket died a horrible death that day. And LOTS of hand sanitizer and baby wipes were used. At least I had chosen to go with disposables rather than my cloth diapers for these 2 days. Did I mention we were off to a great start?
I began to ask myself “Why on earth did I think this was a good idea??” After all I was a newer blog with a relatively small following. I knew there would be established bloggers there sure to capture the sponsors attention. After arriving and checking in I grabbed my ‘attendee’ badge and it was official, any turning back now would be something I would forever regret! I looked around and everyone seemed to know someone, where they were supposed to go and how to act. I will admit I did sneak outside and call my husband to have a mini freak-out…luckily he is good at pep talks 😉 At the bag check I ran into Pam from Natural Organized Parent, after a quick exchange I knew she was someone I could connect with and my nerves started to ease. I figured at the very least I could learn a few things and I would be better for it when I left the next day. And let’s not forget the awesome swag.. Turns out I did survive (imagine that), I met some awesome brand reps that I hope to further a relationship with, and I even made some great friends!! Enter Pam. 😉 I also met Jessica of Mommy Has a Life who was giving out Hanchell Babies swaddle blankets!! Remember how I had to throw out my favorite Aden and Anais one?? This was a life saver!! Perfect for a quick breastfeeding session on the shuttle 🙂
Enough about feelings-a hot topic in this house-let’s get to the good stuff! The Care Bears hosted a brunch to start the day, which instantly makes you happy, I mean you can’t feel any differently around them can you?! Maybe I should get one for my son…
We got to hear all about some of the fun new products, as well as the new Netflix show including the Care Bears cousins! We were all tweeting about it, you can search #ShareYourCare to hear more about what other bloggers had to say!
September 9th will be the first share your care day in which we will DEFINITELY be participating! How will you and your family share your care?
Because Blogger Bash is seriously amazing, next on the agenda was a private showing of the Blue Man Group at the historic Astor Theater just for the conference attendees!
This is a definite ‘must-see’ for anyone visiting NYC…or any other city with the Blue Men. I was laughing through the majority of the show and was 100% entertained the entire time. All I could think about was how much my 4 year old would enjoy it! Luckily Nolan slept through the whole thing! I guess it made for some really loud white noise..or it reminded him of home 🙂
*Blogger Bash Swag 🙂
