 A Peppa Pig Birthday Party

Are your kids Peppa obsessed like mine are? I admit…I kind of am too. At first I didn’t understand the appeal of the popular Nick Jr. show…until I really watched it…I mean seriously it’s pretty funny. And I also find it kind of endearing when my 4 year old asks for a ‘plaster’ for his scraped knee or tells me we need to put ‘petrol’ in our car 🙂 Anyway, when I asked my almost 2 year old what kind of birthday party she wanted, princesses or dinosaurs, she promptly responded with ‘Peppa Pig birthday party’. Ok then.

What kid wouldn't love this hands-on Peppa Pig birthday party?? From sensory play to yummy, muddy desserts, your little one will have a birthday to remember

I love kids’ parties. The decorations, the activities, the cake food… for this party I tried to keep it pretty simple. We were planning on having a small party in our backyard so rather than having any real structured activities or games I chose to set up a few sensory bins and play areas so that the kids would have enough to keep them occupied, but also have the ability to just PLAY! If you’ve read any of this blog you might know that I am sensory bin obsessed, and a Peppa Pig birthday party provides plenty of opportunities for themes of fun bins.  I chose a couple of themes such as cooking, the beach etc. and then some simple dessert.

Sensory Bins

GEORGE’S FAVORITE ‘P-SKETTI’

My kids love colored spaghetti – for lunch and for play! To this bin I added a few bowls and a pasta fork.

JUMPING IN MUDDY PUDDLES

For our muddy puddle bin, I mixed together various colors of Playdough and put it in a water table. I added some watering cans and let the kids add the water to the playdough. It made for some very squishy, pretend mud, fun. There are other variations of clean mud that you could try with ivory soap and toilet paper! You can also make your own playdough to use with this…but did I mention I was going for simple?

PEPPA’S GARDEN BIN

I have a version of this garden sensory bin that is on constant rotation because it is one of my kids’ favorites. I use dried beans as a base and then have an assortment of bugs, plastic flowers, fake pots and garden tools for the kids to use their imagination with!

A DAY AT THE BEACH

For our beach bin, we made indoor sand or cloud dough by combining flour with baby or vegetable oil. This works really well with sand castle molds and shovels. Of course my kids added water to the bin making a nice sludge..that could have worked as our muddy puddle bin as well.

DANNY DOG’S CONSTRUCTION PIT

To this water table I just added some pea gravel and shovels. I like to change up the contents of our water table and sand box from time to time. Pea gravel is a nice alterative and works for playing with cars, diggers, dinosaurs…the options are endless!

DESSERT

No Peppa Pig party would be complete without a Peppa cake! I am by no means an expert baker, but considering that my daughter is on a gluten free diet, I am pretty restricted to homemade birthday cakes (although I secretly enjoy making them). I usually start with a few cakes and then just carve a shape out…easy enough right? Here I used a mixture of fondant (face, arms, legs, tail…and ear/party hat whatever that thing is!) and frosting for the dress. Most 2 year olds would rather eat frosting than fondant which is why I decided to forgo the fondant on the dress.

I also served ‘rain clouds’ and ‘muddy puddles’ for dessert. This simple classic is chocolate pudding, crushed up Oreos and gummy worms with an addition of cotton candy clouds.

We also made these adorable pig noses out of egg cartons, because I just couldn’t resist…

This Peppa Pig birthday party was just too much fun!! Snort, snort!
