This turkey leaf craft uses construction paper and artificial leaves to build a turkey. Great for cutting and gluing practice with kids.
Two of our favorite crafts for the Fall include turkey crafts and leaf crafts, so we thought we would combine with two with this easy and adorable turkey leaf craft. Made from artificial leaves and construction paper, young kids can make this with the help of a parent or a teacher.
Turkey Leaf Craft for Kids
Crafting with kids provides many opportunities for cutting and gluing, both activities that encourage fine motor development which is critical to handwriting.
The best part is, kids enjoy crafting and creating, and don’t even know they are learning! What a great turkey craft to do in the fall.
What you need to make this turkey leaf craft:
Brown construction paper
Red construction paper
Yellow construction paper
Googly eyes
Faux leaves
Glue
Scissors
How to make the turkey leaf craft
Begin by cutting two circles from the brown construction paper, a teardrop shape from the red paper and a small triangle from the yellow.
Preschool aged children or older can cut these out themselves with the help of the shape traced in pencil beforehand. If making these with toddlers, pre-cut the paper into the shapes and allows them to to the gluing. Older children can cut these themselves by making the shapes on their own!
Once all of the shapes have been cut, begin gluing. Attach the two brown circles together to form the turkey’s body. Then, clue the red and yellow pieces to the center of the top circle as the turkey’s beak and wattle.
Add two googly eyes on top of the beak.
Then, create the turkey’s feathers using the faux leaves by gluing the leaves to the back of the turkey’s body.
More ways to play with this leaf craft:
- go on a nature walk and use real leaves instead of the artificial ones
- write a number on the turkey’s body and kids can glue that number of leaves to the back
- make multiple turkeys and write the letters of the kids’ names on each body, use this as a way for them to build their name
- so many fun ways to play with this turkey leaf craft!
