This Halloween pool noodle craft turns Dollar Store pool noodles into a spider, a bat, and a jack o’ lantern. A fun Halloween craft for kids!
Making seasonal crafts with kids is such a fun way to bond as a family and get into the holiday spirit. While my feelings on play-based learning include child-led, free play in crafting, gluing, cutting and teamwork are all valuable life skills as well. These Halloween pool noodle crafts will keep your kids busy and having fun while you make it, such a perfect Halloween activity for kids.
Halloween Pool Noodle Craft with Dollar Store Material
Pool noodles are great to craft with, you can turn them into so many things! We have made pool noodle sharks and pool noodle monsters, and thought we would give these Halloween inspired characters a go.
These pool noodles have transformed into a bat, a spider and a jack-o-lantern and are super adorable as DIY Halloween decor. Older kids will have fun making these independently, while younger children can help cut while a parent handles the hot glue.
What you need to make the Halloween pool noodle craft:
- Pool Noodles – Orange, Black and Purple
- Wiggle Eyes
- Chenille Stems (Silver, Purple and Green)
- Craft Foam – Black, Green, White, Purple, Orange and Brown
- Kitchen Knife – Serrated
- Low Temp Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

- Pencil
- Ruler
How to Make the Jack o’ Lantern Pool Noodle
Measure and cut the orange pool noodle into a 4″ section with a serrated knife.
Attach two wiggle eyes with hot glue.
Cut out the nose and mouth from black craft foam, then attach to the orange pool noodle.
Cut a rectangle from brown craft foam, fold it in half and secure the ends with low temp glue gun.
Cut a leaf shape from green craft foam. To make the vine, wrap a green chenille stem around pencil, then slide off to create a curly shape. This is a great part for young kids to do as it works on fine motor skills, and feels like magic!
Attach the stem, leaf and vine into the hole at the top of the orange pool noodle with the glue gun.
How to Make the Bat Pool Noodle
Measure and cut the black pool noodle into a 5″ section with a serrated knife.
Attach two wiggle eyes to purple craft foam and then cut the circle out with scissors.
Cut out a bow tie from purple craft foam, the mouth with fangs from white craft foam and the wings and ears from black craft foam. To help young children with this step, trace the shapes with a permanent marker and let them cut around the shape.
Attach all items to black pool noodle with low temp glue gun.
How to Make the Spider Pool Noodle
Measure and cut the purple pool noodle into a 2″ section with a serrated knife.
Attach two wiggle eyes to orange craft foam and then cut out with scissors.
Cut out the mouth and polka dots from orange craft foam.
Attach the items to purple pool noodle with low temp glue gun. Cut four purple chenille stems in half and insert four pieces into each side of spider. Bend spider legs at different lengths.
Have so much fun making Halloween crafts with kids
This Halloween pool noodle craft is a great craft project to create with the kiddos for Halloween! These decorations go together in 30 minutes, so create one set to keep and one set to gift in just about an hour.
My own kids have discovered that the hole in the bottom makes for a great place to stick a finger, and like to use these as homemade finger puppets for their halloween spooky stories 🙂
