These rice dyed eggs are a fun and engaging way to color Easter eggs. Ideas for using the colored rice for sensory play after dyeing the eggs included.

We often use colored rice in sensory play. My children love to play with it, scooping and dumping to their heart’s content. Did you know that you can make rice for sensory play, and dye eggs with it before it dries?

It’s so much fun! Check it out below with this rice dyes eggs tutorial, this make this fun Easter sensory bin with the dried colored rice.

Dyed Rice Easter Eggs

Using baggies of dyed rice, kids can color their Easter eggs in a really fun and engaging way, with a sensory component! Plus, this method is a bit more mess-free than other methods of coloring Easter eggs.

Check out how did messy sensory colored Easter eggs here.

What you need for the rice dyed eggs

To make the Easter eggs colored with dyed rice, you need:

  • 1 Dozen Hardboiled Eggs
  • 6 Cups White Rice
  • Food Coloring (6 assorted colors)
  • 6 Sandwich Size Baggies

To make rice dyed colored eggs

Place one cup of rice into each baggie and add 7-8 drops of food coloring into each one.

Close bag and squish the rice around so all the color mixes in well. This is such a fun sensory activity that babies and 1 year olds will enjoy! They can shake and squish until all of the rice is colored.

Open a baggie of colored rice and place 1 hardboiled egg inside. Close bag and shake the bag around until you have your desired color. This is such a fun and engaging sensory component to this Easter egg dyeing activity.

Repeat step 2 until all the eggs are colored. Have fun mixing two or three colors or make a fun rainbow egg with all the colors. Children will love to show their creativity with color mixing and design here.

Once all eggs have been dyed, place them back in the carton or on paper towels to dry and store in refrigerator.

Colored Rice for Sensory Play

Once you have finished dyeing all of the Easter eggs with the colored rice, lay the rice on a baking sheet to dry and use it for sensory play!
