We LOVE pretend play in our house. Dress up, action figures, dolls…you name it. This DIY bird mask is the perfect way to create your own costume accessory for a little pretend play at home!
Using recyclables as crafting materials
I read once that if you are going to buy organic, start with milk, eggs, and fruit that you eat the skin of. I try to follow these rules with most grocery store trips, and always get embarrassingly excited when this means that my eggs come in a cardboard carton rather than a styrofoam ones. I mean, think of all the recycled crafting opportunities! Sometimes we just start cutting and painting to see what we come up with. That was the case with these cuties, it was my fellow instagrammers (follow me!) that helped me see the bird mask!

To make your DIY bird mask
What you need:
- Cardboard egg carton
- Paint
- Feathers
- Glue
- Craft stick
What to do:
- Cut out 2 egg sections with the attached center divider.
- Paint the carton piece with the colors of your choosing
- Glue feathers to the back lip of the carton
- Glue craft stick to the side of the mask (we broke the stick at the top creating a bend before glueing it on)
They really turned out so cute and are quite unique! A bird parade around the house to the ‘Rio’ soundtrack was definitely in order. Enjoy!
