This combination of flour and oil makes edible fake snow that kids will love to play in and mold. What a great base for a Winter sensory bin for little ones.
This combination of flour and oil has many uses as a sensory base. It is a really wonderful option as an activity for 1 year olds, as it is edible and so fun to play with. Messy play is important any time of year, but this edible fake snow makes Winter sensory play really awesome.
Edible Fake Snow Sensory Bin
This recipe is often used as homemade moon sand, a great play sand for children as it is messy sensory play that is also edible and moldable. We used this recipe in a Winter sensory bin as our edible fake snow. There are other ways to make fake snow for sensory play that use items such as shaving cream, so this is a perfect edible alternative.
How to make the edible fake snow:
-10 cups of flour (we used ½ of a 5lb bag)
-6oz of oil (vegetable, baby oil or coconut oil all work well)
Combine the flour and the oil until a crumbly mixture is formed. If you want a thicker consistency, add more oil, for a fluffier (and messier) texture add more flour.
How to play with the Winter sensory bin:
Place the edible fake snow mixture in a sensory bin. Add fun winter themed items your kids will have fun playing with. We have made a Christmas Sensory Bin with Ornaments and Fake Snow and a Winter Farm Fake Snow Sensory Bin as well, you could do either of these themes with the edible fake snow as well!
Check out how we made these fun pipe cleaner trees and felt clothed wooden dolls for imaginative play.
Engaging in sensory play is wonderful for children and helps them make connections with materials. This is a really fun opportunity for children of all ages to engage in the material in a hands-on way while playing and creating.
Ideas for items to add to your Winter sensory bin:

Have so much fun playing with this edible fake snow in a Winter sensory bin!
