october scopers periscope challenge

Are you on Periscope? You NEED to be! Whether you are a blogger, a mommy, a professional or just LOVE social media…Periscope is where it’s at! Periscope is Twitter’s live streaming app where you can interact with your followers completely live! It’s unscripted, unfiltered fun. As a blogger, I have made many friendships through Periscope and have learned an incredible amount about all things blogging. For the month of September, Lauren from Working Mom Magic and Julie from Girl On The Move Blog created a monthly scoping challenge for the month of September. By using #SeptemberScopers, we could all follow each other and let me tell you, it has been an absolute blast! Well guess what…good news…they have collaborated again to bring us #OctoberScopers!! Woohoo!!! Be sure to follow them on periscope, @workingmommagic and @jmdenouden.  I seriously can’t wait and I hope you join in on the fun. If you are new to Periscope {like I was at the beginning of #SeptemberScopers}, I have just a few tips that I have learned over the last month to share with you. And honestly, the first scope is the hardest, so just go for it! (You can always delete the replay if you REALLY hate it). I am by no means a Periscope professional, these are just a few things that I have found to be helpful and wish I had known to begin with! You can find me, @kchiavarone, on Periscope here 🙂

6 NEWBIE TIPS FOR PERISCOPE

1. ENGAGE, ENGAGE, ENGAGE

It’s all about the comments and hearts. I love it when people chat with me while I’m scoping. Not only does it allow me to know you better, but it also tells me you are listening. Because let’s face it…we aren’t scoping just to put our thoughts out into space. We are scoping because we want to talk to you, and we want you to listen. Introduce yourself or say a quick hello when you join a scope. And give that thumb a workout, I have definitely been known to heart bomb like crazy. Just letting you know I care 😉
2. GET TO KNOW YOUR FOLLOWERS

This is something I am definitely working on. As people join your scope, click on their name and their profile will show. Give a brief shoutout or say hello using their name. It’s a great personal touch. If that is too distracting and throws you off-topic, simply try to remember names. When I see someone has joined, I try to say hi to them using their name. People love to be remembered.
3. USE EMOJIS IN YOUR TITLE

This is just from personal experience, as I’m scrolling through the scopes from my followers I am always more attracted to those with emojis in the title. I guess it’s just something about being more visual?
4. SHARE ON TWITTER AND KATCH

When you begin your broadcast, make sure Twitter sharing is on by clicking on the icon of the bird. You want to make sure all of your Twitter followers know to catch you live or watch your replay! Also, broadcasts are only available to watch for 24 hours. By signing up for Katch or saving your scopes to YouTube, your followers can watch your videos after they have expired on Periscope.

5. THANK YOUR VIEWERS

At some point during your scope (I usually finish with this) thank your viewers for watching, and don’t forget to thank those watching on the replay! Also, as you see hearts rolling in, thank your viewers for those as well!

6. WATCH YOUR OWN REPLAY

Be your own critic. I always watch my replays for two reasons. One, I like to see what I think looked good and what didn’t. I speak really fast and in watching my replays, I can barely even understand what I’m saying! Secondly, to pay attention to my viewers and get to know them better. I pay more attention to the comments, checking profiles of those who were interacting and making sure I didn’t miss anything.

So what are you waiting for?? Go catch some of our #SeptemberScopers broadcasts and join in on the fun and then PLEASE JOIN FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER!!!

Feel free to share this with all of your followers by pinning, tweeting, instagramming the images and clicking below. I would love to meet some new Scopers this month! Also comment below with your Periscope handle so that I can follow you. Happy Scoping!

You all might be convincing me to start doing this periscope thing! I was really scared of it (and I didn’t want another social media thing to have to learn when I’m 39 weeks pregnant), but once the baby comes, maybe I’ll try it out. People would love to see a exhausted new mom of two, right? haha

Absolutely!!! That’s the beauty of it, it’s so real and people love that! My 4 month old is on a majority of my scopes…and I’m usually covered in spit up or something 😉

Yay for October!! I’m so excited! It has been so much fun getting to know you! I watch my replays once through everytime too. I really wish I had known how to save then when I first started so I could compare then and now.

Awesome tips! I tried a few scopes in September with the #SeptemberScopers but life got in the way. I’m going to really try and complete the October challenge. I didn’t know how to share on Twitter, so thank you. Plus, I’ve pinned the challenge, so I can remember every day.

I think going back over the videos is a great idea. Like football player watching the game tapes for strengths and weaknesses.
