If I had to create a pie chart of what my distribution of time as a stay-at-home mom feels like, it would look something like this:
You see that large green part?? That would be what ‘feels’ like my time spent cleaning up and de-cluttering. I’m sure this distribution is exaggerated in my mind (I know my time spent asleep is really more than 2%), but it does seem that these other tasks take priority and a large chunk of time. My kids are like little tornadoes, and while I have made multiple desperate attempts to teach my kids to clean up after themselves, it falls on deaf ears, and home organization is something I could really get better at. Obviously, I only have myself to blame…Today I have a guest post for you from Edna Thomson, who has put together this list of cleaning tips to keep your home CLUTTER-FREE!!
Is there really something more annoying than the mess at home? It could be really frustrating to try to organize every room in the place, just to find out a couple of days later that everything is a mess again. In moments like these, you can feel tempted just to give up. There is no need to worry, however, because we all feel this way sometimes. Maintaining your home clutter-free is actually not that hard, as long as you know how to organize your time and tasks for the week. When you have to do a million things every day, it can be a real challenge to plan your time. This, however, is the key to the clutter-free home.
Taking care of a family, going to work and keeping your home clean are probably only part of the many responsibilities you have. Dealing with all of those on your own can be exhausting, so now is the time to ask the other members of your family for help. This way it will be much easier to preserve the good order in your home and avoid the clutter altogether. Below you will find some interesting and useful tips that will help you for sure.
- Part with the things you no longer need – Cleaning and organizing your home is not half as hard as freeing your place from the unnecessary things. Deciding what to keep and what to throw out/donate could turn into a very tedious tasks. It’s not just that there are many things you have to sort through, but some of them also have sentimental value. This means that it will be even harder for you to remove them. The only way to effectively declutter your home, however, is to throw out/donate or store elsewhere the things that you no longer need.
- Keep it simple – Buying all kinds of furniture and filling the different rooms of your home with decorating elements is not the best idea. This will not only make the cleaning and organising of the entire place harder, but you will also notice that the house tends to get messy faster. That is why the fewer things you keep in the different premises of your property, the better.
- Turn the decluttering into a habit – If you truly want to have a home that always looks good, you will have to turn the decluttering into a habit. No matter how busy you are, you have to put aside several hours at least every week to take care of your home. The easiest way you can cope with the situation is to create a schedule. You won’t think of the cleaning and the decluttering as a burden any more, as long as you dedicate one hour every day to the dusting, washing and organizing of the whole place. The best thing of all is that you have the freedom to plan your schedule any way you like.
Now is the perfect time to gather your family and present to them your newest strategies for coping with the mess in the house. Getting everyone involved in the decluttering process of your place is a great idea, that will make things a lot easier and even fun. Remember that clutter doesn’t appear just like that. If you and the other member of your family constantly leave things around the house, it is normal to notice soon that something is not right. In order to enjoy a clutter-free home, you have to find the source of the problem and deal with it as soon as possible. Before you know it, you will have the home that you’ve always wanted.
