This 2 ingredient fake snow combines shaving cream and baking soda to make a squishy, snowy sensory base for Winter play.
Winter themed play just begs to incorporate snow. If you live in a warm weather area, make this 2 ingredient fake snow to play with indoors. Or, if you live in cold weather, escape the cold with this fake snow inside!
Kids love to be involved in creating this snow, there is something about spraying a can of shaving cream that my kids really get a kick out of. Combine it with baking soda and voila, fake snow!
Two Ingredient Fake Snow
I have seen many variations of fake snow floating around Pinterest so thought I would try it out for myself! We have been working on ice and snow themed activities at home (check out our Arctic Small World, Winter Wonderland Art and Magic Frozen Paint)!
Playing off of the movie ‘Frozen’, I used ‘Do You Wanna Build a Snowman’ as our prompt and we listened to the soundtrack while playing with our snow.
We used a simple combination of a box of baking soda and a regular sized can of shaving cream.
I also set out some marshmallows, buttons, ribbon and toothpicks to decorate the snowmen with.
I put the materials in a plastic bin and set that inside the bathtub. Often we do messy play in the bathtub with the kids in only their undies to minimize the mess that I have to clean up!
The texture of our snow was a bit on the creamy side rather than powdery. I would advise to dump your box of baking soda in the bowl first and then add smaller amounts of shaving cream until you reach the consistency that you kids would like. My kids happen to love messy play, however, for some kids a powdery texture might be better.
This was M’s ‘melted’ snowman 🙂 We decided that this is what Olaf would look like if he really did live in summer!
