These indoor camping activities for kids are excellent for pretend play or for prepping kids for outdoor camping through play.
We have so much fun setting up indoor camping activities and using the theme for pretend play, crafting and games.
Here is a list of some of our favorite activities that we have done, from camping art projects, sensory play and science! I love real camping, and so do the kids, but when it is hard to find the time, indoors can be just as fun!
Indoor Camping Activities for Kids
Setting up an indoor campsite. We have a tent area, a fire pit, a fishing spot and a cooking area. Pretend play has SO much value for kids. It has been a wonderful tool for my son who like to know exactly what to expect and what is coming at all times!

Fire Science for Kids. This science experiment takes household items and keeps kids entertained while they are learning! Can’t beat that. I don’t know about you, but fire just fascinates my kids. Check it out in a fun and safe way, and use it as a prime opportunity to talk about fire safety or your family’s escape plan!
Paint with S’mores. Even if your kids don’t like to eat s’mores…they will love painting with them! Process art is such a fun way for kids to really express themselves and it a great way to open up some conversation with them.
S’mores Sensory Bin. Combine these yummy ingredients for some fun sensory play. I can’t guarantee you that your child won’t eat half of the bin though 😉
Campfire Handprint Art. Kids have so much fun with handprint art, this is so easy kids of all ages can enjoy it! Grab the free printable if you want to omit the construction paper strips.
