Sidewalk Paint Fireworks in an Eggshell

Click here to see the detailed post about how we make sidewalk paint. But if you want the simple version it’s just 1 part cornstarch to 1 part water! So simple! We like to color the water with food coloring or liquid watercolors so that you actually have paint 🙂

After mixing our paints, we poured the it into the empty eggshells. We were planning on using blue and red to be patriotic but our red turned out more like pink. To get the eggshells like this I just stabbed a hole in the top of the shell, broke it open a bit and emptied the egg through the hole. I tried to make the hole as small as possible. We took the easy way out and just left the top open after filling them with paint but you can cover it with tissue paper squares and tape them on if your child wants to throw them like a ball.

We took our paint bombs outside and threw them up in the sky letting them land on the ground creating a ‘firework’ effect on the sidewalk.

 

We found that by being up a little higher we got a better splatter effect so Mack threw then from the back of our car.

M really enjoyed throwing the eggshells and A really enjoyed picking them up and crunching them. She also loved playing in the paint puddles. Aside from the stained hand look, the paint is baby friendly because it’s completely edible…although not at all tasty.
