I love these as a homemade gift for Father’s Day! I saw them on No Time for Flash Cards (an amazing blog) and figured we could do something similar. She shows you how to make them without a cookie cutter if you don’t have one! My husband knows that he will almost always be getting homemade gifts for Father’s Day because then it is truly from the kids. And I know he won’t be disappointed when it’s an edible
These are so easy to make, especially if you cheat like we did today and use a cookie mix rather than bake from scratch. I love baking with kids, measuring and scooping is so good for them; however when we need to focus on doing something with our baked goods I save the attention for that and skip the process of baking from scratch.
What you need:
Cookie mix (ingredients for it)
Cookie cutters
Milk
Food coloring
Paintbrushes
So easy!!
Once you have made your dough, roll it out to about 1/4 of an inch thick. If you are using a mix, I like to use a little bit less butter and an extra tablespoon or so of flour. It makes it easier to use the cookie cutters.
I’ve had these awesome cookie cutters in my stash for a while, they are just perfect for Father’s Day! You can go with whatever shape you want though, sports, tools and mustaches are always good go-to themes and usually easy to find cookie cutters for.
Once your cookies are baked and have cooked completely, you can begin painting! The paint is simply just milk colored with food coloring.
Your child can paint the cookies however they like! As a tip, just help them not ‘paint’ too much in the same place, the cookie will become soggy and break.
I just love the way these look! And they are so much fun for the kids to make!
