Activities for babies, activities for 1 year olds and activities for 2 year olds can seem difficult to carry out. This age group is inquisitive, learning and developing at different rates, and can be lacking in impulse control. 

These might sound like learning through play and structured activities are off the table, but they aren’t! 

What to look for when finding activities for 1 year olds:

Because this age group is so busy, often putting items in their mouths or making large messes, combined with a small attention span, it’s important to find age appropriate activities to do. 

At this age, children should be exploring their environment, and immersing themselves in materials provided to them. They learn so much, SO fast, and you can encourage this by offering really fun and stimulating activities with realistic expectations.

For 1 and 2 year olds, activities should:

• include large parts to reduce choking hazards
• be open-ended (even arts and crafts should be the product of the child’s imagination)
• stimulate the senses 
• be done under adult supervision

Activities for Toddlers

For the purposes of this list, ‘toddler’ will encompass children from about 0-2. You will be able to determine at what age your baby might be able to start engaging in activities, and as your toddlers grow, you will know when they are ready for more and can reference our activities for preschoolers list.
