Reading books are an important way to connect and bond with kids, all while introducing a new subject or theme. Research shows that reading with babies and toddlers helps boost vocabulary and language development.

Not only is reading fundamental to development, but it’s also a great way to stay busy at home or on the go with toddlers. It’s on our list of activities you can do every day with a 1 year old!

  • Give them time to look at the pages before you turn it and move on
  • Use your finger to point to the words that you are reading so they’ll learn what certain words look like as well
  • Take turns reading, if possible (you read a line, they read a line) 
  • Encourage them to choose the book to read together

These simple tips are easy enough for anyone to follow and they can have a big impact on the overall experience of reading to your child!
