We love using playdough mats for sensory play, as busy bags, and for party treats! These build a monster playdough mats are perfect for any time of the year or as a Halloween kids’ activity, and kids will love to get creative and find many ways to play with this one.

Build a Monster Playdough Mats

Playdough mats are a really fun way to give kids a prompt of what to do with their playdough. I love open-ended and creative play, but, sometimes my kids want a challenge or an idea to take and run with.

Playdough mats can encourage creativity and can also inspire counting or letter identification practice as well. These particular monster mats will give kids a blank monster that they can decorate with playdough and fine motor loose parts.

How to use the build a monster playdough mats

Print the monster playdough mats below, then cut and laminate the individual monsters.

Provide kids with various colors of playdough to create their monster.

They can choose to follow the outline of the monster provided as a shape, or cover the monster with playdough creating their own monster.

Use loose parts such as felt pieces, pom poms, googly eyes, pipe cleaner pieces and buttons to decorate your monster.

Does your monster have 5 eyes? 6 antennae? 4 legs?

Get creative with it and have fun!

Where should I use the monster playdough mats?

These are great in a number of settings:

  • place in goody bags for a class party
  • as a fun Halloween busy bag
  • for table work in a classroom
  • as a sensory break during the day
  • in a calm down corner
  • after school as a way to decompress
  • before bedtime to wind down

There are so many fun ways to play with the monster playdough mats!

A Halloween Party Goody Bag

We made these for my 4 year old’s preschool class and they are just adorable. I can just picture his friends building and creating with these fun little monsters.

We assembled the halloween goody bag by placing one monster playdough mat card, 2 mini containers of playdough, googly eyes, fake teeth, and cut pipe cleaners in a decorative bag.

My son was so happy to hand these out to his friends at their Halloween party!
