DIY Snowman Ornaments made from Egg Cartons
These are so cute, and, you don’t need a Christmas tree to enjoy them! Hang them from the window, omit the string and set them on the mantle, or add a popsicle stick stake in the back and place it in an indoor potted plant. The choice is yours!
Recycled crafts are great for kids to make. They learn about the importance of reusing items before tossing them, and it sparks creativity by turning one object into something else. Christmas often means baking cookies, and cookies often need eggs. Don’t toss your next egg carton, use it for this adorable snowman craft that toddlers and older children alike will love to make.
While you’re at it, make a recycled paper christmas tree ornament or a paper Rudolph ornament!
What you need to make the DIY snowman ornament:
Egg Cartons (non-styrofoam)
Paint
Paintbrush
Black Buttons
Decorative or Plaid Ribbon
Scissors
Glue
Pom Poms
Pipe Cleaners
Cardboard
Googly Eyes
Decorative String or Ribbon
How to make the DIY snowman ornament:
Cut a section of three wells from an egg carton. If doing this craft with toddlers or preschoolers, pre-cut the egg cartons, then have them paint them independently.
Paint the egg carton white and allow the paint to dry completely.
Cut a strip of plaid ribbon and tie around the egg carton, then secure with glue.
Paint a small piece of cardboard orange, allow the paint to dry and cut a carrot nose from it. Glue the nose onto the egg carton.
Glue googly eyes above the nose.
Glue black buttons onto the egg carton.
Use paint to add a coal mouth and rosy cheeks.
Cut a portion of pipe cleaner and glue onto the head of the snowman with a pom pom on both ends.
Loop a decorative string or ribbon and glue onto the back.
Young children love to paint and glue. Pre-cut any of the items that need to be sized and allow the kids to decorate their snowman and glue as they please. Their interpretation of a snowman might be different than yours, and that’s ok! The more kid-made these look, the cuter they will be 😉
Hang this DIY snowman ornament on your Christmas tree when finished. Doesn’t it look adorable there?
If you want to use this egg carton snowman as adorable holiday decor, simply omit the looped string on the back of the snowman and display around the house!
