Farm Animal Board Game Printable
Board games involve so many opportunities for critical thinking. Children need to identify colors, count numbers, strategize and take turns.
This board game is a great farm themed activity for preschoolers and early elementary aged children. My 9 year old has been playing these types of games since he was 4 years old, and he still loves them!
This game is similar to the style of Candyland where you draw a card and move to that space, but watch out – you might have to go backwards.

Setting Up the Farm Animal Board Game

Cut out all of the game cards and game pieces. Laminate or print on card stock for durability – this is one of my Best Tips for Using Printables with Kids: Organization and More. Also on this list is the use of dry erase pouches, this game board can be placed right inside one to play the game easily and wipe clean afterward.
Shuffle and place the game cards (colored rectangles and rectangles with objects) in a pile next to the game board.
Assemble the game pieces by cutting around the oval around each animal and along the outside of the dotted line. Once cut out, fold the dotted tab to create a stand for the animal game piece.
If your game piece is having a hard time standing like this, add a paperclip along the bottom of the folded paper. See the image below to see exactly how to do this.
How to play the Farm Animal Board Game
Once the game is set up, each player can choose a farm animal game token and place their pieces on the top of the game board.
Taking turns, players draw a card from the pile and move to the corresponding space on the board. If a color card is drawn, move to the closest space of that color on the board.
If a card is drawn with an object such as a tree or a windmill, move to that space on the board – it might be ahead or behind you.
The first player to reach the barn wins! Note that the barn has a rainbow circle around it – if the closest space with the color you draw is on that rainbow, move to the barn and win!
