Pumpkin Counting Activity for Preschoolers
Preschoolers count all the time without even thinking about it. They are working on understand more and less, and how many of something they might have. This is such a great foundation for early math skills.
Counting activities for 4 years olds (or younger) are best when done through play. Taking a simple activity such as counting popsicle sticks and adding numbered pumpkins makes this a great preschool fall activity.
What you need for the pumpkin counting activity
10 Paper cups
55 Popsicle Sticks
Glue
Scissors

How to set up the pumpkin counting activity
Print the Counting Pumpkins PDF Template from the supplies list above.
Cut out each numbered pumpkin and glue them to the paper cups.
If you don’t have a printer or prefer to draw, use a sharpie to draw a pumpkin with the number inside on the outside of the cup.
How to use this fall counting activity
Place the cups and the popsicle sticks on a table.
If children are just beginning their counting, use only the first few cups numbered 1, 2 and 3.
As your children become comfortable counting the correct number of popsicle sticks into each cup, add higher numbers and work your way up to 10!
To make this even more pumpkin-themed, add pumpkin or halloween stickers to the top of each popsicle stick, similar to how we did with this 5 Little Pumpkins counting activity!
